Vic Horvath (they/them pronouns) was a local Victoria folk/blues singer songwriter. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Vic migrated out West, and found their home nestled amongst the cream of the artistic community of Victoria while living in and around the Fernwood neighborhood. Vic hosted many memorable jams and bluegrass events at the Fernwood Café, and had great relationships with other local artists.
Vic Horvath was a talented multi-instrumentalist. An adept songwriter, Horvath gained a loyal following for their guitar-and-vocals solo act, although they also stretch their talent to drums, bass, piano, and even the musical saw.
Community was a source of constant inspiration for Vic; they played music festivals, record shops, living room parties and pop ups as often as traditional spaces like bars and cafes. Vic played at many local festivals, including (ArtSwells, Woodstove,…) (RAE AND MATT HELP ME OUT HERE)
Listeners describe Horvath’s combination of roots and folk music as dark, warm, and magical.
Aside from solo pursuits, Vic also collaborated with other acts, either appearing with a backing band or contributing to other musicians’ projects; between group and solo shows, Vic was constantly recording, creating and performing throughout their 7 years in Victoria.
Outside of songwriting and performance, Horvath was strongly dedicated to the local music scene in Victoria BC. Vic worked passionately to raise the profile of queer/LGBTQA** folks in the music industry, and contributed their efforts to many LGBTQA** events around the city. Affecting social change was a major motivation for Horvath’s process—creating music and communities through which people can safely share, converse, and connect with each other.
